What is DNS? Print

DNS (Domain Name System) is used to provide information about the IP address where a website is located. Simply put, it tells you where to go when you enter a web address in your browser by converting domain names into IP addresses and vice versa.

For example, DNS will tell you that "www.unlimitedhosting.me" is located at the IP address 50.22.97.98. While people usually care only about the domain name, which is easy to remember, computers need the information about the IP address.
